How to Move Bishops Online

When we're planning to rule diagonal lines on the board we need bishops to support our queen. Bishops online are even easier to maneuver for this purpose. Here are some guidelines on how to move bishops when playing online chess.

Initially in the game we are given 2 bishops—one that runs on black diagonal lines and one on white diagonal lines. Initially they are positioned on c1 and f1 for white pieces and c8 and f8 for black pieces. To move them on the online board we simply click on them to attach them to the pointer.

We'd notice that once they're attached to the pointer we can bring them anywhere on the board. But we have to follow their assigned diagonal line color and place them on the square we want them to be. Then we click on them again to make them stay on the square. We cannot just place them anywhere on the board. The site software program will automatically detect the illegal move and indicate it to be so.

Thus, remember that each bishop we have either follows the white diagonal lines to run on or the black. It cannot be both for the same bishop piece. Bishops online cannot travel horizontally or vertically as on traditional boards. So we keep them on diagonal tracks. They can cover as many squares per move but are limited by any piece standing in their way. They are not allowed to jump over any other piece, ally or enemy. If our bishop is on e8 and there's a piece on c6 and g6, our bishop is limited to d7and f7 because it cannot bypass pieces.

When standing on the center of the board a bishop can check or support 4 pieces. When at a side square it can check or support two pieces. In a corner it can check or support one piece. In this sense bishops are inferior to knights. But in long distance travels on the board bishops are superior to knights. Bishops can get to the other side of the board with a single move (like a1-h8, a3-f8), while knights take 4 moves to travel side to side.

One way of checkmating an enemy king with only 2 bishops and a king, we need our king on f1, our 2 bishops on f3 and e3 while the enemy king on d1. Bishops online, as on traditional boards, are deadly guardians of diagonal paths on the board.
