Online Tournament for Beginners
When we have learned the rules and basic strategies and have played a couple of few games we may try out in an actual worldwide beginners tournament online. This experience will broaden our learning and help us familiarize with what's available online.
The online tournament especially designed for novice chess players is the slow-pace or "turtle" tournament games. The opposite of these are the fast-pace or "hare" tournament games.
Don't worry about getting pressured to decide on a move pronto during the tournament because slow-paced games take days and even weeks to finish. This means the opponent may make a move today and we may opt to make our counter move tomorrow—or the day after tomorrow.
It's easy to join slow-paced tournaments. Just open a chess site offering a slow-pace tournament and register. After registering we get a homepage where we manage our game or games on and then choose a tournament. After choosing a tournament option we will find ourselves in a game after a few moments.
We also don't need to fear about how to setup a board online because the website software takes care of everything for us: board orientation, board setup, clock for time limit, notation and recording, rulings, and other important matters.
In a beginners tournament online all we have to do is move pieces to win. We choose what piece is best to move in a particular situation, click on it, and put in on the square we want it to be. So, at the start, we find a setup board and an opponent from some part of the world.
We find the user name of the opponent as well as ours. White piece moves first. If we play black pieces then the opponent moves first. Let's say the opponent does a c4 move. We can try to figure out what the best move is for our turn the whole day today and make our move tomorrow.
Of course there's a time limit. But for beginners, the time limit takes days and even a week. We may even opt for a leave to make our clock stop while we do important tasks and then come back to resume with the play. We may opt to adjourn, resign, or close the game anytime if we're losing the game. We don't have to go through all the harrowing details of losing.
So try it. A beginners tournament online may be stressful at first but it becomes exciting once we get used to it.
