En Passant Move Online

What are the factors that lead to an en passant move in chess? What happens when en passant move is done online? Let's take a look at the following details.

En passant happens when a pawn moves out from its initial formation, which is along row 2 or 7 using chess notation, and takes 2 squares passing an enemy pawn in the process. In chess this is an illegal move. When there's an enemy pawn our pawn would pass by when making a first move, our pawn is automatically captured. The proper procedure is to move only a square from our initial formation to meet the enemy pawn.

En passant means "in passing." Our pawn gets captured automatically in passing by an enemy pawn when making its first move. So instead of just bypassing the enemy pawn we should meet and threaten it by moving just a square forward. The opponent would often capture it and we counter capture it with a supporting pawn or another ally piece. The enemy pawn can also opt to not capture it and merely bypass it without being penalized by an en passant move in chess.

The conditions are always that a pawn is doing its first move in the game, moving out of its initial or setup formation, taking 2 squares forward on it turn, and there's an enemy pawn 2 squares away to its right or left. The move was enforced years ago to cut the time consumed in a game. Sometimes we may intentionally pass by an enemy pawn and the opponent would automatically take our pawn piece and place the enemy piece where it should be after a capture.

Online, en passant may be declared an illegal move as a warning or the guilty pawn may automatically be taken off the online board and declared to have illegally made an en passant move. To overcome an en passant we must make sure that the enemy pawn benefitted by it would be counter captured. If our pawn is sufficiently supported, we need not worry about en passant. It will end up break even.

The danger of an en passant move is when our pawn is unsupported and the enemy pawn ends up gaining our pawn plus a conversion. Pawns benefitted by en passant are those who have crossed the board half-way.

An en passant move in chess is not that serious. Just make sure the pawn caught en passant is well supported for a counter capture.
